June in the Presidential Range of the White Mountains

Saturday, June 23 – Tuesday, June 26, 2007

Back by popular demand is a 4 day/3 night trip to the White Mountains in June.

Some pictures from the trip in this area last year are at:

 and from 2004:

We will be covering a different area of the AT including the highest point of the AT in New England – Mount Washington.

This is serious hiking.  The current trip looks like:

  • Saturday June 23 – Drive up and stay at Pinkham Notch – day hike TBD
  • Sunday June 24 – Pinkham Notch Hut to Madison Hut 7.7miles, 4,050 ft
  • Monday June 25 – Madison Hut to Lakes of the Clouds Hut 7.9 miles, 3,400 ft
  • Tuesday June 26 – Lakes of the Clouds Hut to Pinkham Notch (by way of Tuckerman Ravine) 4.6 miles, downhill 3,450 ft then drive home.

The current plan is to drive up to New Hampshire on Saturday June 24th (the weekend after the end of school).  The current plan is bunk at the Appalachian Mountain Club huts (Pinkham Notch, Madison Springs, and Lakes of the Clouds).  Tuesday we will hike out and drive back to Guilford – assume that we are returning late.

Spots are limited in the huts so crew size will be limited to 19 scouts and scouters.

SIGN-UP will be posted Thursday night – you may also email me.  I will be seeking email confirmation and deposit by May 3rd.  Please note that the deposit is non-refundable after May 10th unless an acceptable substitute is found:

Eligibility – not necessarily in order

-         First come, first serve

-         Demonstrated competence at this level (we will look to have a shakedown hike prior)

-         Leadership will reserve the right to make the last call on crew composition

Additional details and organizational meeting will follow.

Estimated Cost to cover the trip – lodging, dinners and breakfasts:

Scout ~$190

Adult ~$255

(Get out and sell those Strawberry Social tickets to build up your scout account.)
