Summer Canoe Trip 2005

Friday, July 15 through Friday, July 22

Week long paddle trip in the northwest section of the Adirondack Waterways, upstate New York.

Cost approximately $150

Final selection of the route is not decided at this point, but may be Long Lake through the Raquette River and on to Little Tupper Lake, or the Oswegatchie River to Cranberry Lake and back.

The trip will be designed to meet the capabilities of all scouts. The trip will require one to be in good shape as we will be paddling on lakes and possibly up river if we do the Oswegatchie trip.

Portages, or as they say in the Adirondacks, carries, will be kept to a minimum. For those new to canoeing, a portage is when you carry your canoe and gear between bodies of water or around waterfalls.

All scouts will be required to attend planning meetings and an overnight shake down prior to the trip. Crew size is limited by New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to twelve. Due to this restriction, the crew will be made up of eight scouts. If more than eight scouts wish to participate, an effort will be made to assemble an additional crew.

To secure a position on this trip, a $25 deposit, made out to Troop 474, needs to be given to Mr. Heinemann.

Crew leaders: Mr. Aery 589-3148 and Mr. Acampora 457-9068
