Battenkill Canoe Trip Update – Oct 1 – 2, 2006

Sometimes there is just not enough time in a weekend to do everything you want to do----like camping and canoeing. So we are going to go camping and canoeing on a Sunday and Monday. (There is no school on Monday.)

 

Location: Howell’s Camping Area, Arlington, VT  802-375-6469

Activity:  Canoe the “Battenkill” approximately 10 miles from Manchester, VT to the campground in Arlington, VT (Battenkill Canoe LTD – 800-421-5268)

Depart:    Sunday, October 1, 2006 - 2 PM

    Lake Quonnipaug boat launch – Class A shirt must be worn

Return:    Monday, October 2, 2006 – 8 PM

    – Class A shirt must be worn

Meals:     Sunday dinner, Monday breakfast and Monday dinner provided by troop.

                Bring your own lunch for Monday to eat while canoeing.

Cost:        Approx. $20

 

Money: The $20 camping fee should be brought with you. A small amount of spending money should be brought. Time allowing, we will stop at the Wilmington country store.

 

Meeting:  After the troop meeting on Thursday we will have a short trip meeting.

Food:     Each crew member must provide a packable lunch for Monday including all beverages

and eating utensils. All other food and cooking gear will be done at the crew level.

 

Clothing: Be sure to bring warm clothing as Vermont evenings are cold this time of the                    

year. An additional set of clothes must be packed in a waterproof bag to be brought on the river with you. Class A uniform shirt and neckerchief required for travel both to and back from camp. Clothing for river should be non-cotton. Be sure to have rain suit.

 

Tenting:    Arrangements and tents will be finalized at Thursday’s meeting.  Two- and three-man tents are                available in the troop room.

 

Transportation:   Carpooling to be finalized. All adults attending trip must e-mail me driver’s license number and cell number by noon on Wed, Oct 27, so that I can process BSA required trip permit. All scouts attending without a parent must have BSA permission slip, found on troop web site.

 

 

Life preservers will be worn. (The troop does have life preservers.)
