LIGHTHOUSE DISTRICT SPRING  CAMPOREE

October 8 & 9, 2005

 

DESCRIPTION - Lighthouse District has organized Camporee at Hammonasset State Park revolved around Native American Folk Lore. Reference is made to separate memo describing events of the day.  Adult Leaders already committed include Terwilliger, Heinemann, Pecoraro, Van Dongen. Others are encouraged to step forward since one or two might need to leave.

 

Patrols are responsible for certain aspects of food described below, tenting, cook gear, stoves, and the like. This is good opportunity for Flaming Seagulls camping related rank advancement requirements. Troop gear can get issued this Thursday

 

Bring your bicycle if you can to shuffle between camp grounds and Meigs Point.

 

WHEN:  8:00 AM Saturday 10:00 AM Sunday

 

WHERE:  Hammonasset State Park - We will set up camp at Hammonasset – Camping will be in the WEST FIELD opposite the parking lot. The Native American activities will occur at the Nature Center at Meigs Point.

 

WHAT TO BRING: Follow three season check list for over night camping.  Backpacking all your gear in is preferred.  Bring mess kit and canteen.   Bring your bicycle if you can to shuffle between camp grounds at west end and Meigs Point. 

Clothing - Weather is tricky prepare for precipitation, temperature and wind.  Be prepared for 45 at night/65 in day.  

CLASS A UNIFORMS SATURDAY & SUNDAY MORNING. Rain gear and ability to layer is must. Rain is forecasted. This is perfect hypothermia weather, wet & cold.

 

 

MEALS – Patrols and individuals will be responsible for all meals EXCEPT Saturday night dinner which will be Group dinner of whole roasted chickens and other good grub.  Meals will be as follows;

 

Saturday Breakfast – eat at home before you leave.

Saturday Lunch – keep it simple. Sandwiches and backpacking cold food are encouraged. Hot meals are okay but probably not necessary.

Saturday DinnerTurkey roast shakedown by a Troop provided whole roasted chicken dinner, staples, vegetables and possibly Dutch oven deserts. .

Sunday Breakfast – simple to keep, cook and clean. Cooking requires use of stoves, not fire. We will be looking to break camp.

                                                HAVE YOUR OWN SNACKS AND TRAIL MIX

 

Troop will have bug juice and some supplies, stoves, charcoal, snacks cooking gear, Dutch oven. 

 

ALL WHO CAN ARE URGED TO BE THERE ALL OR PART OF THE TIME. Come for the day, night or both…but be there if you can
