Lighthouse District Scouters

Here’s an update on the Camporee, October 7th, 8th, and 9th at Hammonassett State Park.  There will be no fee for camping for the scout troops. The scouts will be camping in the field opposite the West Parking Lot. The bathrooms will be open in the nearby campsites. I would urge the units to try to set up Friday afternoon or early Saturday morning.

Everyone should wear a Class A uniform shirt or a Class A uniform.

Some service will be expected of us – probably parking cars.

If your Troop has radios, they will be helpful.

The program keeps growing. This will be a celebration of nature and Native American Culture featuring Native American music, dance, and art with performances by Kenny Merrick, Jr. and the Mystic River Singers, a well-known drum and song group, and the renowned native flutist, Joseph Fire Crow. Native dance exhibitions will be presented, followed by round dancing for spectators. There will be an Archeological Dig by Connecticut State Archeologist Nicholas Bellantoni and Exhibits by Mohegan Sun, Mashantucket Museum, Yale Peabody Museum, the Institute for American Indian Studies, the Henry Whitfield State Historical Museum and local historical societies.

Admission is $5 per person. Children 10 and under will be admitted without charge. Parking and entrance to the park are free.

The Friends of Hammonasset and the Hammonasset Nature Center will be the beneficiaries of all funds raised.

Let’s have fun and do a good turn for a great cause.

Please call me at (203 421-3368 with the number of Scouts and Leaders that you expect to have at the event.

Thanks,

 Al
