Equipment List:

  1. Pack as much in plastic bags as possible...dry clothes are warm clothes...
  2. Avoid cotton...remember that layering is always a good idea...choose clothing that is multipurpose and/or forms part of a system.
  3. Check and double check

WEAR:  ...Clothing that is appropriate to the season...be prepared for unexpected changes

    Hiking boots, broken in, with new laces...or sturdy shoes with good arch and ankle support
    Wool socks with 'wicking' liner sock...or...synthetic system such as Thorlo, Smartwool, etc.

CARRY:

    Extra changes of underwear
    2 extra sock systems
    Wool sweater or polypropylene fleece top
    Lightweight jacket or windbreaker
    Hat or cap...flexible, with brim
    Poncho or rain gear
    4 bandanas
    Lightweight sneaker...or...sandals...or...moccasins

EQUIPMENT:

    Pack with good hip belt, shoulder straps and sternum strap
    Sleeping bag in plastic bag or waterproof stuff sack
    Waterproof ground cloth (space blanket)
    Eating utensils: bowl or deep plate / spoon / cup
    Water bottles to total 2 quarts per person
    Toilet paper in plastic bag (to be carried at all times)...and 'toilet trowel'
    6 plastic bags in varying sizes
    personal hygiene items: small bar of soap in a plastic bag or container / toothbrush and paste / small towel / deodorant / comb / wipes
    Sunscreen / insect repellant (NOT 100% DEET)
    10 Essentials Kit:
  Compass   Pocketknife
  Flashlight and spare batteries   Water purification tablets
  Emergency blanket or tube tent   Matches in waterproof container
  Personal First Aid Kit   Whistle
  Small candle   50' of 1/8" nylon line
  2 Quarters for Phone or Screwdriver    

OPTIONAL:

    Sleeping Pad     Camera and Film
    Knife and Fork     Fleece or Down Vest
    Leg Gaiters

    Map and trip plan     1 Water filter per 4 - 6 people
    Tents     Stoves and extra fuel
    Cooking gear / utensils / clean up items     Bear bag and food storage container

    Group First Aid Kit     Saw and or axe
    50' of 1/4" line or equivalent     Small portable grill
