25 & 50 Mile Bike Ride September 24, 2005

 

 

Gentlemen…pump up those tires to full recommended PSI to reduce friction!!!.

 

Event DescriptionFor those working on cycling merit badge or not, Troop 474 plans on taking a 25 and 50 mile bike ride on Saturday 9/24. Please be promptly at Mr. Town’s House at 8:00 ready to ride no later than 8:30. For those doing the 25, expect to be finished in 3.5 hours  arriving back to Mr. Town’s house by 12:00 or so. Expect we will ride at an easy pace of about 12 miles per hour. For those doing 50, well roughly double it.

 

Where - Starting at Mr. Town’s House (Cycling Merit Badge Coordinator) 37 Hopmeadow Circle.  Hopmeadow Circle is off Stillmeadow Dr which runs between Stepstone Hill Road and Little Meadow Road.  If you are coming up 77 from I-95, Stepstone Hill Road is the first traffic light on 77 after going under 95.  Turn right onto Stepstone and go up the hill.  Stillmeadow is the first right off of Stepstone.  If you get to Little Meadow, you have gone too far.  Hopmeadow is the first right off of Stillmeadow. Town’s house is the second house on the right hand side (excluding the house on the corner which faces Stillmeadow). Any questions, give Mr. Town a call 453-9867.

 

We will Ride from Town’s house down to RT.1 to Hammonasset Point ducking down along the shore line roads staying off Rt 1 as much as possible… and return to Mr. Town’s house.

 

When - Saturday 9/24/04 departing Mr. Town’s House no later than 8:30!

 

Who – Anyone interested in simple exercise or pursuit of Eagle required Cycling Merit Badge (among other things, you will need two 25 mile trips and one 50 mile trip). Capable family members are welcome too!...

What

1. Your bike with pumped up tires. We will have an air compressor available for

those in need…but be at Town’s early  so we can ride by 8:30.

2. Rain/wind might be an issue…be prepared

3. H2O bottle on bike frame

4. Possibly a snack and certainly some money when we stop along Rt. 1

5. Spare tire tube

6. Bike helmet…or you will not ride!!!

7. Bike gloves are good but not mandatory

8. Sun glasses & sun screen are worth considering  

9. Camera has potential

 

Pecoraro has saddle bags and would consider carrying a light rain jacket or wind breaker for those in need
